Animal Friends of the Valleys Begins Care June 26

Animals within the city limits of Menifee will be transported to the shelter in Wildomar starting on Friday (June 26).

At its May 14 meeting, the Menifee City Council directed staff to contract with Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV) for both field services and sheltering services. The contract was approved June 14. AFV operates the Southwest Communities Animal Shelter in Wildomar, located at 33751 Mission Trail.

Until Friday (June 26), AFV’s animal control officers will continue to transport stray pets from Menifee to Riverside County’s San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus (581 S. Grand Ave., San Jacinto). For the next few days, Riverside County’s shelter in San Jacinto will remain the facility where Menifee strays will be cared for and sheltered.

Also, animals from the city of Menifee will remain in the care of Riverside County through the end of the original contract with the city. That contract expires June 30. After that date, Menifee strays will be transported to the Wildomar shelter.

During the transition period, officials from the county and the city of Menifee, in concert with leaders at AFV, are urging pet owners to check both the county’s website and Animal Friends of the Valleys’ website for their lost pets.
